SUPERIOR, Wis.—Lake Assault Boats, a leading manufacturer of mission-specific boats for fire, law enforcement and public safety agencies, as well as commercial marine industries, has promoted Chad DuMars to Vice President of Operations.
DuMars is responsible for all engineering and production activities of Lake Assault, as well as joint ventures with Fraser Shipyards, its sister company with which it shares operations, manufacturing machinery and a location at a 124-year-old shipbuilding headquarters on Lake Superior.
DuMars came to Lake Assault in 2010 after an extensive career in maritime design and manufacturing that included building passenger vessels, car ferries, work boats and luxury yachts. He most recently was Lake Assault’s Managing Director, a role that included manufacturing responsibilities.
In his new role, DuMars will bring a full-time focus to design and manufacturing of boats for Lake Assault’s clients, which include fire departments and law enforcement agencies across the country. The process starts with clients connecting with the Lake Assault team to understand mission needs.
“We’re a custom builder of boats for whatever mission our clients have,” DuMars said. “My job is to help our clients understand how a Lake Assault boat can help them get their job done, and then to build that boat for them.”
DuMars has been responsible for overseeing the design and launch of nearly 50 boats that Lake Assault has manufactured since he arrived at the company. He has led an expansion of the design and manufacturing staff. He and his team also have developed the industry-leading custom manufacturing processes that Lake Assault uses.
“We have a diversified team, and there’s not a project that we won’t take on,” DuMars said. “We can do it all internally to meet our clients’ needs. That is what excites me most about our company.”
